Born and raised in the mountains of West Virginia, Doug was introduced to fishing and hunting at an early age; mainly going after Smallmouth Bass and Trout. While attending college, the fly fishing bug struck and has been his main recreation ever since. Although chasing large critters with his bow is still a hobby, his focus is being a good father and husband. A self-proclaimed trout junkie he once quit a high paying position and spent several months living in a tent and travelling the East Coast looking for epic fishing. He has also paddled and fished most of the major river systems in West Virginia. Seeking new adventures and a better way of life for his family, he has uprooted and moved to the beautiful Appalachians and is already calling WNC home. Leaving behind a career as an Environmental Scientist, he wants to focus on his passions in life, and one of those is sharing a love for the outdoors and all things fishy. Whatever the fishing may be, with Doug you will always get a positive attitude, and a lot of laughs. Though, typically with him as a guide, the fishing is pretty darn good.
Recent rains have left the greater Pisgah area with great winter streamflows, and ample opportunities to fish. Fishing is better as the water warms through the day, no need to be on the river much before 10am. Read More
