Guided Private Trophy Water
Davidson River Outfitters was the first fly shop in North Carolina to offer access to private trophy trout water. Over the years, we have developed relationships with land owners that have made it possible to gain access to certain stretches of river that were previously off-limits to everyone. You will find our private trophy waters are full of trout, some of which are measured in pounds rather than inches. The average size of the fish is roughly sixteen inches, with a lot of fish over the twenty-inch mark. Since we limit the number of anglers on our private trophy waters, you will also find peace and quiet and have plenty of the river to yourself.
The Davidson Trophy Water is our flagship water. This stretch of the river is full of insect life and supports an impressive number of trout, as well as some very LARGE trout. You can fish the Davidson Trophy Water with one of our guides or you can pay a rod fee and fish it on your own. We allow only ten anglers at a time on this three-mile section of the river, so be sure to make your reservation well in advance.
Green River Headwaters is a small stream fishing experience offered exclusively by Davidson River Outfitters. This two-mile stretch is the epitome of a classic Southern Appalachian trout stream. Picture crystal clear pocket water formed by moss-covered boulders, surrounded by a pristine mountain backdrop. Like our other private trophy waters, this section of the Green River affords anglers the chance to sight cast to large fish. With only four guided rods permitted on the Green River Headwaters per day, our guests will enjoy long stretches of undisturbed water, with only more opportunities waiting around the next bend.
The West Fork Trophy Water is located on the headwaters of the French Broad River. The West Fork is a phenomenal, mid-sized stream that fishes well from mid-September to mid-June. During the warmer summer months, the water can be low and the fish can be extremely wary. We limit the number of anglers on this mile-long stretch of river to two per day, or four per half day. We do require that anglers fish the West Fork with a guide.
We limit our client to guide ratio to a maximum of three clients to one guide. This is so we can to provide you with the best service possible and ensure that everyone has a successful day on the water.
